The earth extinction event was in the event we set off a nuke to seal it up (as the Russians recommended in an earlier slashdot article) and it opened up a fissure 1/4 mile wide, releasing it all pretty much at once. Even then, it would probably just make things uncomfortable. Earth extinction from the sudden release of a trillion barrels of oil seems a bit unlikely.

Apple Orders 10 Million Tablets? 221

Arvisp writes "According to a blog post by former Google China president Kai-Fu Lee, Apple plans to produce nearly 10 million tablets in the still-unannounced product's first year. If Lee's blog post is to be believed, Apple plans to sell nearly twice as many tablets as it did iPhones in the product's first year."

Some of us deposit many checks on a regular basis. It's either this or mail them in (at least USAA provides postage paid, pre-addressed envelopes for this free of charge as well). Or if you went to another bank, you could go to an ATM or a local branch, but then you have to log off of Warcraft for long enough to drive/walk somewhere, and who *knows* what kind of loot you might have missed out on! Besides, that Hodir rep doesn't farm itself. ;-)

Renters generally still pay their rent with checks. That and the occasional random bill from a service company that you get through the mail. Checks still have their place, although I generally pay everything online these days.

Well, their Deposit@Home feature, which allows you to use a scanner to scan them in. Only works in Internet Exploder 32 bit version, which is annoying. But USAA is by far the best bank out there, frequently topping Four Seasons for the best customer service available. I don't have an iPhone, but this is a natural extension to their Depost@Home feature.

Actually, this is 100% wrong. The right of way has nothing to do with the size of the vehicle, but rather their propulsion methods (sails above motors above seaplanes for example) and how they meet (overtaking, crossing, etc). If an oil tanker runs over a sailboat, there are going to be a lot of very rich relatives of the owners of the sailboat.

Again, for the 100th time, you misread the bicycledriving.org law. It says if the bike lanes exist, bikes have to ride in them. IT DOES NOT SAY IF THEY DON'T EXIST THAT THEY CAN'T BE ON THE ROAD. Get that through your thick head. You are wrong. Bike *are* allowed on the road throughout the states even if there isn't a bike lane.

He's Canadian, and should have his license revoked for not knowing the rules of the road. He even posted them, misinterpreting the provision that said "if a bike lane exists, the bike shall ride in the bike lane" as "if there isn't a bike lane, bikes are prohibited." But yeah, he's clueless about the rules of the road.
