Well true that you can't reproduce an event that equals the size and destructive force of a supernova, the atomic/hydrogen bombs built back in the 40's-50's were based on what -causes- a supernova. All we'd have to do is take the readings from the test explosions of the largest bomb used, and then multiply the pressure/gravitational waves to the level of a star going boom. Not that hard

To me it sounds more like they just don't want sophisticated technology easily viewed by anyone, terrorists are just an easy blame and the Sheeple of America will easily agree if it's to "ward off terrorist attacks". To me it just sounds like a beuacratic push to dampen what normal people can access

My two cents about the idea is, employers have been digging the dirt on their employees since before the Net age, and they're going to keep doing it right up until it bites them in the ass. It was harder back when to dig up dirt because it was hard to get to without spending lots of time and money, but now you can pay some guy (or if you're somewhat good with computers do it yourself) to browse a few sites, look through a few search engines, and they have your whole life story, permission or not. No point in arguing about it because they're going to keep doing it, even if they do get a suit that goes through, because they won't care.
