I'm amazed that so many slashdotters (who are probably pretty tech savvy) receive (and keep!) so much stuff on paper. The only papers I keep are signed documents and receipts for somewhat expensive things I've bought. All bills are delivered electronically to my online bank (I live in Sweden), and with a "No junk mail please" note on my mailbox the only mail I get is interesting/important letters and directly addressed junk mail. Bills from companies I haven't registered for electronic billing with (new contracts or one-time business) I just trow in the paper recycling bin. My only problem is papers with more or less sensitive personal information on them, for now I just keep them in a box, but I'm planning on getting a small shredder so that I can throw them in the recycling bin as well.

Badgers Digging Up Ancient Human Remains 172

One of England's oldest graveyards is under siege by badgers. Rev Simon Shouler now regularly patrols the grounds of St. Remigius Church looking for bones that the badgers have dug up. The badger is a protected species in England so they can not be killed, and attempts to have them relocated have been blocked by English Nature. From the article: "At least four graves have been disturbed so far; in one instance a child found a leg bone and took it home to his parents. ... Rev. Simon Shouler has been forced to carry out regular patrols to pick up stray bones, store them and re-inter them all in a new grave."

A bit off topic, sorry about that, but why do so many Americans seem to think their boss is their worst enemy? Is the climate really that bad at most companies, or is it simply the unhappy ones who make the most noise?

What people in general seems to be disregarding is the partitioning-style that the new Intel-Macs are using.

Old Macs use a clean, simple, nice and flexible partitioning-system called Apple Partition Table. PPC-Mac OS can read those disks and boot from them. Intel-Mac OS can read them, but not boot from them (EFI does not like APT). Windows XP can neither read not do anything else with it.

New Intel-style Macs use Intel/Microsofts new GPT, GUID Partition Table. It is a clean, simple and flexible way of partitioning the disks. Intel-Mac OS can read and boot from drives partitioned with GPT. PPC-Mac OS can not boot from them (but it might be able to read them with an update, although Apple says to use APT on all external drives to avoid such issues). Windows XP can read and boot them, but only the 64-bit version of Windows XP.

Intel-PCs of today use MBR-partitioning. The MBR-way of booting and partitioning is a general pain in the butt, but it is what Windows XP (32bit) can understand and boot from.

Of course, there might be a way to make Mac OS boot from MBR-disks, since it did in the developer-intel-version, and so it would be possible to runt Windows XP and Mac OS from the same MBR-partitioned disk, but I would not really feel at ease running my Mac-partition as one of the four primary partitions on the weird old legacy MBR-disk-system.

Anyway. The iMacs with Intel CPUs have been out a couple of days now. Kodawarisan has even posted images of the insides of it, so if it was all that easy to run Windows, why have no one posted any pictures yet?

Of course, there may be a way to get 32-bit windows to boot from GPT-drives. Please correct me if I am wrong.

They do? Last time I looked, IBM processors were inside all the current "next generation" consoles. To me, it looks like IBM is the surest winner in the next/current/upcoming (pick your perspective) round of console wars. As an AC already pointed out, Apple mus have been a really low-volume customer for IBM, and probably a picky one at that.
