Geek Squad Sends Cease-and-Desist Letter To God Squad 357

An anonymous reader writes "A Wisconsin priest has God on his car but Best Buy's lawyers on his back. Father Luke Strand at the Holy Family Parish in Fond Du Lac says he has received a cease-and-desist letter from the electronics retailer. From the article: 'At issue is Strand's black Volkswagen Beetle with door stickers bearing the name "God Squad" in a logo similar to that of Best Buy's Geek Squad, a group of electronics troubleshooters. Strand told the Fond du Lac Reporter that the car is a creative way to spur discussion and bring his faith to others. Best Buy Co. tells the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that it appreciates what Strand is trying to do, but it's bad precedent to let groups violate its trademarks.'"

The Fuel Cost of Obesity 285

thecarchik writes "America loves to complain about gas mileage and the cost of gasoline. As it turns out, part of the problem is us. How much does it really matter? A study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found a 1.1 percent increase in self-reported obesity, which translates into extra weight that your vehicle has to haul around. The study estimates that 1 billion extra gallons of fuel were needed to compensate for passenger weight gained between 1960 and 2002."

NASA Preparing For Largest Hurricane Study Ever 28

anonymous writes "Does lightning predict the intensity of a tropical storm? What role does dust from the Sahara play? Do hurricanes form from the large-scale environment around a tropical storm or from small-scale formations 100 kilometers from the center? A team from NASA, NOAA, and NSF plan to find out. Starting Saturday, the team will conduct the largest hurricane study every undertaken. Among other things, a better understanding of hurricanes has ramifications for weather prediction, building codes, insurance policies, and disaster planning." One recent study found that hurricane creation is affected by plankton in the ocean.

What good Samaritans are you talking about? I watched the entire unedited video. They were combats, they had weapons. The vehicle had no markings indicating it was Red Cross/Crescent. They were trying to evacuate the wounded but they were still combatants, Insurgents don't wear uniforms. The video was edited to make it look like a massacre and not a battle. I have been against these wars from the start, but it does not help the Anti-war cause to have anti-war groups posting inaccurate or manipulated info. Keep in mind this was the same group that released the emails from scientists that created "climate-gate-" which the American Right used and continue to use to stall climate change. And now it appears they are basically threatening to release a quarter million state department communiqués. This could be disastrous to our relations with any number of nations. Some of them may say unflattering things about other nations that diplomatically could be disastrous if they got out. Assage is nothing more than a media whore who is giving real whistleblowers a bad name.
