Comment Re:Is this a real article? (Score 5, Insightful) 337

I did a little digging and you can find the calendar of the meetings online here (https://www.sfusd.edu/calendars) which then links to the agendas and goals. The grading for equity is on the agenda. And following routes from the SFUSD site lines up with the other links in the article. So the source material is real. The draft documents might have a few placeholders, but that is normal until an agenda is formally accepted/released.

So, no this is not an AI hallucination. This is a real life plan. Whether or not you agree with the approach, the approach is being attempted.

They were in front at the beginning of the cloud storage wars and had a lot of great features/integrations. The problem I had with Dropbox was their switch to their new pricing structure some years back. Went from $20/yr to $100/yr for something I didn't need. I didn't need/want the 1TB drive, 100GB would have been fine. Don't want the 1TB plan? No other option. I switched to OneDrive for cheaper and included the Office apps. Haven't looked back since.

You point number 2 is the main point for this type of network. Wireless connectivity with layers of security and control. Keep my data in my network.

Wifi for indoor, private cellular for outdoor. The number of wifi APs needed to cover an outdoor (or large indoor like major warehouse) would be much higher than a private cellular LTE or 5G system. This works in the 3.7GHz range so goo propagation and data speeds for open spaces with the power level of your radio controlled via a Spectrum Access System (SAS) broker so you don't bleed over to other properties.

full disclosure: I work in the private cellular industry, but not for AWS.

No, the shared spectrum is better called "lightly licensed." It is the CBRS spectrum that is band 48 and is regulated through SAS providers. You have a subscription, you can operate in the band, hence why it is shared. No auction to own the spectrum and everybody has a TX power limit as given by the SAS. So you can't blow away our user just because you can turn your knob to 11. The SW won't let you go past 4.

That's the number one reason I switched away from them. They have no nid-tier price level. It is now either really small free or huge and expensive. I used to pay for the plus service to get my 50GB or so for files and photos. Then they changed to a 2TB as the minimum level and upped prices by more than 20%. No thanks. With one sync I can change over to something like OneDrive for half the cost and still have plenty of room to grow.

Uh... I think you misunderstand. They are wiring up 500k *number of homes* because verizon's deal with NYC was to have FIOS available to a large number of people and they fell woefully short. This amount of homes still doesn't satisfy the original deal, but t least Verizon has to actually do something that might be helpful instead of a monetary slap on the wrist.
