Why is everybody heralding Napster as the good guys? How was/is Napster looking out for artists? How are they looking out for anybody?

Civil Disobediance, or means to participate in it. Enough people fed up with be ripped off were given a means to rebel. While napster is promoting piracy, it has brought the issue out, backed by all of its users.

Sometimes doing *WRONG* things produces needed change, for example I'd be British, rather than American if my ancestors had put up with being over-taxed. Were americans, our nation was founded on the rights of the people (rather than the rights of the Govt. or Business interests)RIAA.

As for the artists, we would all rather see our money going to them rather than...
