Comment What About The Gov't Possessing This Stuff (Score 1) 580

The Gov't seizes computers and hard drives with this content on it. They present it as evidence. Are they breaking the law by merely possessing the data? If not then aren't we back to the idea that it is not the information or data itself that is criminal, but rather the circumstances it was obtained / created and the intent behind the possession? Circumstances and intent are for courts and juries to assess. Laws are to inflexible to unilaterally consider the complexity of intent.

thecarchik writes "Consider yesterday's collapse of electric car company Green Vehicles an object lesson in why it's a bad idea for cities to invest in the risky business of start-up car companies — perhaps especially start-up electric car companies. Even such companies with a viable product have seen their fair share of financial troubles, but Green Vehicles did not even have a product to sell off at a fire sale. The city of Salinas, California learned that lesson as Green Vehicles shut its doors, costing the city more than $500,000."

Submission + - Google Wave Looking To Join Apache Software Founda (pcworld.com)

MMacFadden writes: The Google Wave team has officially submitted the open source version of Wave to the Apache Software Foundation as a candidate Incubator project. Google hopes that the wave technology will continue to grow, supported by the new open source community (which is made up of Google and non-Google employees alike). PC World has a good write up here.
