Exactly my experience after I challenged the admin of a hobby-themed masto server for posting unrelated political stuff.

First he shadow-banned my account, then when I wasn't sufficiently repentant (i.e. still causing trouble) he booted me.

Masto is only "free speech" if you host your own instance, and even then other sites may block you.

Sure, fiction is fiction, but for a novel that gets described as "hard sci-fi" I think it's terrible that it promotes these pseudo-science opinions. These comments are just casual asides in the text. They aren't at all central to the story. They are only included because the author wanted to present that message.
