Journal Luke727's Journal: LOL! 1

Every once in a while, somebody comes along and posts a comment like this. This almost makes up for all the injustices. Almost.

I still can't post either anonymously or logged in from this IP. I think I'm on another month-long ban, which means I should be able to post around Christmas.

I'm going to share a secret with you that I haven't told anyone, either in real life or online. I have always avoided using USB devices. I disable all the USB options in the motherboard BIOS, buy PS/2 keyboards and mice, and always get internal peripherals instead of external USB devices. I guess this is because I had a bad experience with my very first USB encounter, probably one of the first motherboards with onboard USB controller. I wasn't even using any USB devices! My computer kept freezing up in seemingly random places. It was driving me insane. After trying to fix the problem for a few days, I tried disabling the onboard USB controller in the BIOS out of desperation and the computer never froze again. I have avoided USB since then. However, I have come to a realization that hardware and drivers have drastically improved since then, and eventually PS/2 will be faded out (you don't see any AT keyboards anymore). So, I finally took the plunge and enabled USB in my current PC. No stability or performance issues at all. My first USB device is a 256 MB flash drive, and it works fine. I've built other people's PCs using USB mice and keyboards and have had no troubles at all. I will take the real plunge on my next computer. I will get a USB mouse and keyboard, and probably a printer and scanner. For Christ's sake, I still use a printer over the parallel port! What the fuck is wrong with me? At least I have taken the first step. With a little luck, I will completely overcome USB anxiety.
