Doing the math before the most recent gas price increases, I came up with it taking 140,000 miles of driving before the gas savings of a hybrid over a regular version of the same car would overcome the price difference.
So, if you're buying a hybrid to spend less on gas, you're busy failing. If you're buying a hybrid for environmental reasons, you're paying a premium to make a social statement, and buying a band-aid technology that isn't the solution.
