English works pretty well in France nowadays. It was much more challenging twenty years ago. Also, the quality of life in the area around Aix en Provence and Marseille is amazing. Nice weather, wonderful food and a rich history and culture. One of the nicer areas I have ever spent significant time in. I completely agree many people will never go back to US even when a less anti-intellectual president comes to power.

Comment After Squeezebox Logitech lacks all credibility (Score 1) 177

If I was ever going to buy something like this it would surely not be from Logitech. After they arbitrarily decided to brick all Squeezebox devices they have lost all the credibility they once had. I used to be a very loyal Logitech customer, but after my Squeezeboxes were bricked I am actively choosing alternative suppliers. I would not trust a "lifetime" offer from Logitech longer than you can throw it.

Again. A question of jurisdiction. In many countries the legal system is actually made in a way to protect the little guy from evil corporations and there are different institutions, including police, in place to ensure that happens without breaking the bank for the little guy.

"Mega-corps are sitting on tens of thousands of secured-yet-unused patents in “war” chests, all for the exclusive right to sue anyone who dares even try." That's a fixable problem right there. Fix the Patent laws so: 1. There has to be real height to the innovation for a patent to be granted. 2. Prior works are scrutinized much more heavily and patents to close to prior ones are rejected. 3. Raise the cost to apply for patents, maybe especially patents that end up not being granted. 3. Shorten the patent period.

Also, remember that the Paris road network and surrounding infrastructure is not built for large cars. Traffic runs much smoother if everyone is in small city cars and in order to be able to get around efficiently and find a place to park where their car actually fits, most people choose a small car in Paris if they decide they need one at all. Dealing with other people in oversize vehicles becomes bothersome. Differences in vehicle sizes also increases risk for people in the smaller vehicles.
