I personally do not believe that there is any single physical solution that will guarantee that your data will last. Even if the was some perfect medium, external forces would have the potential to destroy it. You can reduce the odds of this loss by mitigating risk by using multiple and possibly different formats.

The real answer though would be an active service. A multi-sited, data storage service that actively protects your data is the only real way of making sure your data lasts. There are many professional services out there that will host your data, but finding one that your confident will last the next hundred years is going to be near impossible.

I did a quick search of the Internet and did not find any projects that allow artists to store their data for these purposes. Maybe this is an opportunity to create something more than art. =)

Personally I have never understood why people are so convinced the solution to everything is the "free-market".

The entire concept of a free market is based on a system free from external influence, force, fraud, or coercion. Am I the only one who notices that this isn't practical in a global setting without a centralized government?

The only thing the Invisible Hand is doing is slapping down any businesses that are actually trying to do things in a fair and respectable way.

In my view, the answer is easy. Take away the benefit of bad business. You want to sell products in the United States, just prove that all people and processes employed in the manufacture of the product meet the minimum standards of the United States. I know what most people would say; that would create a humongous amount of bureaucracy! It is true, but it would put everyone on a level playing field and on the bright side create lots of American jobs administrating it.

I would be a very happy camper right now if I could use my google voice number with my google andriod phone on my google wireless plan.

As someone who has permanent nerve damage in my back that makes me unable to feel my legs below the knee I can tell you exactly what several doctors have told me.

"At least you can walk." "Let me know if it gets worse."

Consider hiring people to clean your gutters or hang your Christmas lights.

It would be interesting if this could make desalinization more energy efficient. After you finish desalinization you end up with clean water and very salty water. If you mixed the less salty sea water with your now very salty water, could they recover part of the huge amounts of energy that desalinization requires?

Frankly this sounds like a good idea to me. I really don't have a problem with it. Someone please explain why I should. How would this negatively affect me? Even if I were a criminal, I would just wear latex gloves while I was committing crimes.
