Comment My head turning response scenario (Score 1) 835

I am a 23 year old User Experience Architect and I've been working in the IT field since I was 16 years old. Before accepting my current employment, I encountered a firm that was big on age/experience and was comprised of mostly engineers in the 35-40 age bracket who had been working in the industry for 10+ years. I was asked a question almost exactly like the one you postulated.

Using simple math I constructed the following response, which I believe caused the interviewer trouble with the big wigs in the room:

I've been working in IT for about 8 years now of my 23, where as this older gentleman has been working for 15 of his 45. Since we have both been in the industry gathering career experience for the exact same percentage of our life experience, the question should be about quality and adaptability. Not quantity.

I wonder what happened to that guy...

Submission + - Cell Powered Big Brother - PSN ToS v4.0 (playstation.com)

LordDax writes: "Sony just rolled out their new Terms of Service for the Playstation Network (PLAYSTATION®NETWORK TERMS OF SERVICE AND USER AGREEMENT Version 4.0 (October 15, 2008))

The new ToS features additions about the Master&Subaccount relationship, specifically that you can only "legally" create a sub account for your own child. No friends allowed.

But where it really gets interesting is when you get to the additions to section 3.0 Community Code of Conduct. You now can't tell anyone your real name, where you live or basically anything besides your PSN ID. The new ToS also brings to light that SCEA is going to be monitoring every piece of communication and activitiy, and reserve the right to remove any content or communication they find objectionable without having to tell you in interests of SCEA, its users, or licensors.

Another addition is the one in 11. MAINTENANCE AND UPGRADES. "Some content may be provided automatically without notice when you sign into PSN. Such content may include automatic updates or upgrades which may change your current operating system, cause a loss of data or content or cause a loss of functionalities or utilities."

Sony is now reserving to right to update your system automatically and not caring if it causes any damage, which they won't fix. They say its your responsibility to back up your data, but doesn't make it clear whether backing up the content they provide on a secondary device violates other parts of the ToS.

Version 4.0 of the PSN ToS is out there, and Sony wants you to know that they'll be watching."

Stardock Evaluates DRM Complaints, Updates Gamer's Bill of Rights 279

Earlier this year, we discussed the Gamer's Bill of Rights, a document put forth by Stardock CEO Brad Wardell to address what he felt were the unacceptable characteristics of the gaming industry. ShackNews reports that Wardell has taken feedback from gamers, developers, and publishers, and updated the document accordingly. One particular area on which he focused was DRM. Stardock also published a customer report that examines the issue in greater detail (PDF). MTV's Multiplayer Blog fans the flames of the debate by asking if anyone is embarrassed about pirating video games.
