No, Linux runs native on "raw S/390 iron" ... it also runs in a S/390 Logical Parition (LPAR) and also under VM. Three operational options ... same exact Linux code. Check out http://www10.software.ibm.com/developerworks/opens ource/linux390/ for more details.
