A looked down workstation can actually be very beneficial to coding. Far too many shops spend most of their labor hours recoding because it "ran fine" on the developer's machine. One very sucessful shop in my hometown doesn't allow developers to run their own code on their own machines. They take every test run on a 486 that just got reformatted and has nothing but a clean-install os on it. Works like a charm.
