We definitely need to learn to be better thinkers. A lack of imagination is always filled with a surplus of visualization. Visualization is a crutch for analytical thought. The brain atrophies and become dependant on visualization. Look at how many Americans watch TV everyday. We're bred to be mindless drones by corporate society. When was the last time you came up with a joke that wasn't off TV, or said something that wasn't based on some visual imagery you saw off a movie? The lack of abstract, original thoughts have been replaced with media imagery.
Of course, what I said above isn't original at all. Huxley, Orwell, Chomsky, adbusters.com, etc. will all regurgitate the same thing. But at least in the days before TV and computers, people had to form their own visualization of what they read in books and heard on the radio...
