There is a long history of trauma from proponents of eugenics and ableism attacking the Deaf community. Cochlear implants are far from perfect. There is also the ethics questions of the lack of consent when performed on children. Alexander Graham Bell was a major proponent of eugenics and wanted to eliminate deaf people. His goal was to eliminate Deaf culture, sign language, and pair deaf people with hearing people to breed out the deaf genes. (this isn't have genetics works) His legacy lives on in the form of "Oral Schools for the deaf" where deaf children are taught to "listen better" and are banned or discouraged from learning sign language. This is still happening in the US today. Hearing aids don't always work, cochlear implants don't always work. The gene therapy is neat. But this only applies for a small percentage of deaf people. Also, who pays for this? Additional, you said "suffer being deaf". That's your point of view. I don't suffer being deaf. I suffer hearing people.
