Comment So What? Transfer It On Day 61 (Score 1) 146

The period of renewal stays with the domain name so it's not like I'm going to lose the money I paid to GoDaddy. If I change my contact details in preparation for a domain name transfer and GoDaddy locks me out out of transferring it for 60 days, what's to stop me from transferring it on day 61? If it happens to overlap with my renewal with GoDaddy then all I have to do is renew the domain name for one year with GoDaddy and then transfer it when the lockdown is over. Nothing is lost here. It might be inconvenient but they're not bilking anyone out of any money.

Submission + - Teacher Julie Amero gets a new trial (norwichbulletin.com)

LazloHollyfeld writes: "A New London Superior court judge this morning granted a defense request seeking a new trial for Julie Amero, the former Norwich middle school substitute teacher convicted of exposing her middle school students to Internet porn. Acting on a motion by Amero's attorney, William Dow III, Judge Hillary Strackbein placed the case back on a trial list. Amero had faced 40 years on the conviction of four counts of risk of injury to a minor. State prosecutor David Smith confirmed that further forensic examination at the state crime lab of Amero's classroom computer revealed "some erroneous information was presented during the trial. Amero and her defense team claimed she was the victim of pop-up ads — something that was out of her control. Judge Strackbein said because of the possibility of inaccurate facts, Amero was "entitles to a new trial in the interest of justice." After the brief court appearance, a smiling Amero stood next to her attorney. "I feel very comfortable with the decision," Amero said. Dow commended the state for investigating the case further. A new court date has yet to be scheduled. Amero has reentered a not guilty plea."

This is likely in part a self prepuating cycle, seeing few women leads you to think women don't belong in IT, which leads you to be suspicious of any women who are in IT, the women get tired of hostile reactions and drop out, this leads to fewer women in IT..... That's exactly my point. The other really messed up thing with that typing is the few women who are recogized as being geeks, are such the generic female! I mean, look at the Frag Dolls (who are horrifying) or even Suicide Girls, who are pretty much just modern day cheerleaders with nose rings. Us 'normal' women get even more sidelined because we're not prancing around in babydoll T-shirts. This hasn't become the focus just yet, but give it time.
