What a hilarious load of fanboy revisionist history drivel.

The PS3 outsold worldwide the RRoD plagued Xbox 360 every single year on the market right from the very start.

The Xbox 360's RRoD was present not only before any price cuts, it was causing pre-launch demo units to fail everywhere.

And the PS3 was the top selling console worldwide after the the two and a half year Wii fad died off. The RRoD plagued Xbox 360 came in last place in worldwide sales - even with its tens of millions of duplicate consoles sold.

How fucking stupid do you have to be to claim that the last place console maker 'handed back teh market' to the worldwide console leader?

That really is the story. Microsoft creating a iteration of workplace chat that integrates with their existing ecosystem and huge numbers of Microsoft customers switching to it is the least shocking tech news there could possibly be.

What is the story is how the hell Slack got its absurd valuation for a product that can be and is being easily duplicated and improved upon.

* There are no vital Slack patents
* There is no unique Slack technology or IP
* And there is almost zero cost to switch to another chat platform

The one time I used Slack a few years ago its was nice to not have to mess with people installing native software but I ended up having to deal with people wasting time on the useless - IMO - plugins that really did nothing to improve productivity. It was clear the only real productivity was coming from the basic chat.

Perhaps larger companies or different team structures benefit from the Slack features beyond basic chat but I have never seen the real world measurable benefits.

I don't think Slack as a company is worthless but it almost certainly has a lot more downside in its valuation.

Web development's reaction to dumping Javascript is going to be like people who were forced to ride across country in a Pinto with a fat guy who ate nothing but Taco Bell finally arriving at their destination.

What is most mind boggling is even the Javascript clowns who know the end is coming all think they are going to be making 300k a year as support consultants for legacy Javascript code like Cobol programmers were by big banks and the like.

And even the ones who see the writing on the wall for the rapidly approaching doom of JavaScript think that there will be high paying Cobol type jobs supporting legacy systems for the next decade or two.

Once WebAssembly has minimum viable access to the DOM in the major browsers for real world sites, JavaScript usage numbers are going to look like WeWork's valuation freefall this past month.

FreeBSD has fallen below viable level of developer support, user interest, and funding. Which is sad because there is a small core of highly talented unix engineers still working on FreeBSD.

* The official and non-official forums are ghost towns
* The infamous douchebag FreeBSD forum moderators continue to drive people away from the project
* The FreeBSD community has gone full retard SJW and continue to double down on the toxic ideology
* Anyone who speaks up is immediately labeled and 'alt-right', gamergater, neo-nazi, white supremacist, incel who doesn't respects teh womenz enough
* People who speak up have their entire online post history combed through for evidence of wrong think and immediately dismissed if the slightest evidence is found
* Funding continues to dry up
* Developers continue to leave

And there is open bragging that this death spiral/purge is a wonderful boon to the project and all of the people with wrong think will gone.

A perfect example is why FreeBSD is in a death spiral is here:

https://twitter.com/stevelord/...

The obnoxious douchebag responsible for the disgusting behavior is a FreeBSD Core Team Member who has been one of the primary people ramming the SJW/CoC garbage down the project's throat.

* No one wants to work with such sanctimonious douchebags
* The toxic CoC obviously isn't going to be applied to the SJW crowd that have hijacked the project
* The toxic CoC is being used as a weapon against everyone else who wants nothing to do with the toxic ideology infesting the project

Hopefully some time a large company or individual can take the existing FreeBSD codebase and create a new project from the ground up that is free of the toxic ideology and completely focused on tech so projects like this one can try to make FreeBSD a viable workstation OS once again.

* "it's easy money - I'd be stupid not to take it"

I bring up the numerous questions they should be asking:

* Have you checked how much taxes you will be paying, vehicle repairs, vehicle depreciation, etc.?
* Have you considered the opportunity cost of putting that time in to developing your skills so you are able to get a better and/or higher paying job?

People always talk about the toxic Rust community, but the real problem with Rust is it utterly failed to make its use case.

Instead the tiny Rust advocates put out inane claims about C/C++ being rewritten in Rust and it inevitably turned out the C/C++ was maliciously written in some way that would never happen in the real world or other silly fanboy type shenanigans.

That crap just isn't going to work with people who live and breath code.

Rust failed, just like D, because it was measured against other options and found wanting.

I don't know if this is just one of the dwindling number of Rust advocates hyping something minor, a tax write off for Intel, or and early April Fools joke.

People have real work do get done and have moved on.
