I'm surprised his novels haven't been mentioned yet, whilst being fast paced thrillers they often cover a wide range of subjects in addition to forensics. The Cold Moon for example covered Horology and Kinesics, whilst The 12th card was about the History of Harlem. They're very interesting to read despite not being Sci-Fi :)
