This true. It was initially supposed to be a parody on the white commercialized
versions of religious holidays. Kwanza is a swahili (I think) word for money and
the festivities include a tree and a menorah like thing. I also belive the holiday
goes on for 12-days (think of the commercial aspects of the 12-days of Christmas
song). The real joke was that it was adopted as a real holiday. In the years since
its invention, it has become much more than the original joke of its inventor.The
