Journal L-dawg's Journal: back to "normal" 1
I made the most out of my time this Saturday, and saw Tricia (fellow geo girl from college) for a short hike on the coast at Point Bonita, played some hoops at a middle school playground with Bossy, and hung out with Rotton (I feel the need to write (sic) after each Rotton reference) before he headed back to home and school.
The weather for the hike was almost perfect, slightly overcast with a cool breeze. There were great views of the Golden Gate and the city. It's really been quite pathetic how few hikes I've gone on in the Bay Area in the year that I've been here. Experienced a bit of deja vu as we passed the hostel that I stayed at when I was in high school. That was a loooong time ago. We made a loop then drove back to the city for ice cream at Peppermint Park on Polk St. Canteloupe and Green Tea flavors, yum.
Next, Bossy and I drove around until we found some empty basketball courts. The sun was out in its full glory against a deep blue sky by this point. After I coerced her into running a suicide "for fun" (what the hey, I haven't run one in awhile), she somewhat insanely suggested that we race to the far fence and back (far, far fence. very far), which against my better judgment I agreed to do. After we got back I said, "Whoever doesn't throw up wins." Indulging in a race like that makes me feel like I'm back in elementary school. And that's not a bad feeling at all.
After a couple of episodes of Sex in the City and 5 1/2 shots at Bossy's place (they did what they were meant to do and no more - namely, prevent me from thinking too hard), I met up with Rotton, and we joined up with some of his old friends for caffeine and sake, then later some In and Out. August 17 seems to be the day for good-byes since that's how it worked out last summer too. I said goodbye to Rotton today (no, I don't actually call him that to his face).
And that's how life is "back to normal" right now.
Randomly, araml found me on friendster yesterday. I refused to link until I heard more than just a link request. We'll see what comes of that.
Tomorrow marks one year in Berkeley and honestly I would say that overall, it's been a good year. High mean but also high amplitude of variation. That's what makes life interesting, if I had to put a positive spin on it.
I have a 7am meeting tomorrow morning. I pity myself. The funny thing is, I really do feel like a complete and total slacker after hearing stories about working in the "real world".
