Journal KshGoddess's Journal: someone kill me. please. 11

One word: flu. Hubby's brother gave it to me and his sister.

Temp of 101 degrees, achy joints, not able to eat much, and drinking liquids all day. Drinking, sleeping, coughing, and peeing was my fun today. Woo.

I've got it worse than my sister-in-law, but I usually require a day or 2 of rest and then I'm fine. My mom always said "If you're sick enough to stay at home, you're sick enough to stay in bed." Which is probably why I recover this way.

I just wish I would stop aching and coughing. The fever I can deal with.

Christmas was... slim this year. Hubby's been playing "Harvest Moon" on the gameboy player on the gamecube since Christmas. I got Grand Theft Auto 3: Vice City. And "Real Men". The latter, we watched immediately. The former was just unwrapped today. Still not played, as far as I can tell.

But, we've got a house, and we're happy. Not healthy right now, but happy. Next stop, wellness, and a job.

COUGH-COUGH-COUGH. Bleh.

  • Exactly.

I've got it too, whatever "it" is.

Try boiling hot showers and baths to help the muscle ache.

I woke up in the middle of the night when my fever struck a high note. I was freezing. It wasn't even cold in the room but I couldn't help shaking. I wore socks, boxers, sweatpants, a tee, a sweatshirt, a fleece, a fleece hat and hid under the duvet[sp?].

    Blah.

Hot lemon drink. Use the juice of one lemon, a spoon of honey in a cup of boiling water. This helps soothe your throat and reduces the coughing. I almost lived on the stuff when I had the flu a couple of weeks ago.
    • I second that. Brilliant stuff!
    • Oh, another thing I did to get through it all: When I got well enough to return to work, I still had a sore throat. I mean it was really sore. So I made up a drink bottle with extra strong lemon+honey drink. About 1:1 lemon:water and honey to taste. It was actually quite nice to drink (it helps that I like the taste of lemons - I used to freak my sister out by eating lemons as if they were oranges - she couldn't stand it) and stopped me coughing and clearing my throat all day long - I just sipped on the dri
  • I feel your pain. I've had "it" for the past week. I'm almost totally OK, but very weak due to not eating much for the past week. Trying to lift weights today was not fun...

I hope you get better soon!

  • Sorry you're sick. :( Get better soon.

    • My fever's down .3 degrees this morning, to 100.8. Hacking cough, semi-productive. *grumble*
      • :(

Take drugs.. Lots of 'em. I'm particularly fond of the Alka-Seltzer cold pills. The red ones are good for while you're working. The purple ones get me all "fuzzy", so I can be completely unproductive all day.. (read fuzzy=stoned).

With the red ones, they'll kill all the normal cold symptoms (fever, headache, cough), so I can pretend to be normal, but still infect everyone in the office.

Did I mention that I have an evil streak a mile wide? :)
        • I'm taking drugs; robitussin during the day, nyquil at night. But I'm still sick. I've got an AWFUL cough right now. I sound like I'm talking through gravel.

          Grumble.

At least I have a good husband who takes care of me. :)

          • Don't forget your 1/4 million friends on here. :) Oh wait, all we're good for is to say "better you than me." hehe

Well, I did have two weeks of headaches that felt like someone ramming a skewer through my temple. I would have prefered coughing. :)

            • NyQuil isn't knocking me out like it usually does; and the robitussin isn't working very well on the cough.

But I think I'm doing somewhat better. But Hubby's got it and we're expecting to be bums for the next couple days; we bought 3 used games at gamespot tonight. :)
