Journal KshGoddess's Journal: Mr. Monk goes to Mexico 6

Let me just start by saying I love my TiVo. I like to watch Monk, but I'm terrible at keeping track of when things come on.

Tony Shalhoub is *awesome* as Monk. He's especially convincing in those moments where Monk goes all weird and can't stop himself from, say, touching the parking meter, or straightening a picture. Monk is both the neurotic Everyman, and Sherlock Holmes to the nth degree.

It looks like the Captain is finally 'warming' to Monk's quirks, as after Monk puts his mail in the mailbox, watches it as it's being picked up, and tries to follow the mailman (after being given an assignment to leave ASAP), the Captain steps in and has his underling, I can't remember the character name, follow the mailman to 'make sure he doesn't drop anything'.

Even dehydrated (as all 18 of his suitcases were stolen the first 5 minutes he got into the hotel -- including his suitcase full of bottled water), he was able to solve the murder and keep from blowing himself up. :)

  • TiVo has to be the greatest invention to work with TV's. A friend of mine started buying them years ago, when the company first started out. When he was doing it, I was looking at it saying "What a complete waste of money"..

I've never worked a schedule that let me see shows on any regular basis, and most of the time unless something gets rerun at 3am I may never see it..

So, pissed off with the cable company, I bought a DirectTV package with an included TiVo (like, it's part of the receiver)..
  • I couldn't help but wonder why nobody talked about him on /.

He is a very convincing actor. No matter how repetitive the stories get, I find that it always stays fresh with me. I'm glad that I never recognized him from other shows, because it would make it easier for me really see him get into the character, Mr. Monk. When I saw him in that movie with Denzel Washington, I was surprised, because I thought that in order for him to play Mr. Monk to such an extreme, that he would have to be kind of like that to

  • I love Monk as well. Haven't watched in a while, though. The neurotic tendencies remind me of some of my relatives, now if only they could go around solving crimes and molesting parking meters :)
  • I like the show, but the timing is bad. The first run is on when I'm still playing with the kid. I think the second run is run when I catch Stargate. (Sorry, I know I'm supposed to be boycotting SciFi, but Stargate is about as brainless as it gets on Friday evening).

Not quite worth getting a TiVo, but I am glad that there are finally some new episodes.
  • ... was that the mystery was a good mystery.

A reliable sign of a good story is that it's ending is completely unpredictable ahead of time, and clearly inevitable in retrospect. Doubly so for a mystery.

Was I the only one reminded of a certain Isaac Asimov "Black Widowers" story?
