Journal KshGoddess's Journal: Did I tell y'all that I broke the car? 8

Probably not.

I've been driving the elephant...er, Element to and from work lately because, well, last Friday I was backing out of the driveway, and trying not to hit my sister-in-law's car on my right. I happened to hit the trash can (as Friday is trash day) with my driver's side mirror. It broke off.

I still feel a little stupid.

But anyway, we taped it back into place, ran our errands, brought Ben lunch, and I told him about it. He told me to call the guy he knew. The guy runs a great little shade-tree body-shop (and is the guy who broke his foot during our deathmarch). They replaced my mirror (painted to match so well, I couldn't tell it was the new one), but cracked the glass when they were putting it into the new housing.

Today, they're replacing the glass, and all will be right in the world.

Tomorrow, I will be able to drive my lil' bug to work again, and put my ipod into its lovely dock. Yay, 45mpg fuel consumption!

Did I tell y'all that I broke the car?

  • My car is four-tone. Rust-red, steel-gray, blue, dirt-brown. And it gets a whopping 19 mpg. I'll post a pic tomorrow.
  • Heh. I rented a car in DC last week, and they have a nasty habit of only offering GPS/Navi in the full size cars. As fate would have it, they did not have one waiting for me - and ended up giving me a Lincoln Navigator. OH MY GOD! I have no idea how people drive those things. Insult to injury, the hotel was repaving the parking lot, so I got a lot of parallel parking experiences in that behemoth of a SUV each morning and night. I was a quivering mess by the time I got to my carrera waiting at the airp
    • actually, the element isn't too much larger than the bug. it has more than enough windows, and a tighter turning radius. But it is taller. And in the afternoon, the wind comes down from the mountain and across the highway, and I can't drive as fast because I want to be in control of the vehicle, oddly enough. :(

I love the element, it just doesn't get as good mileage (24-26 mpg the way I drive it), and it's not "my car".
    • so I got a lot of parallel parking experiences

That's why, if god existed, she'd have invented motorcycles. There are only 3 ways I feel comfortable going downtown: the subway, driving a 10-ton truck, or driving a motorcycle (being a passenger on a motorcycle scares the heck out of me for some reason, but driving a bike ... its heaven. Better than sex :-). At least on a motorcycle you've got enough zip to get out of people's way when you can tell they're totally blind or on autopilot, and parking is a jo

      • I use to motorcycle everywhere. Last bike was an old Yamaha FJ1100 that went coast to coast in a giant bow tie loops with the center in Minneapolis, daily driver to university and everywhere else once the snow cleared. My bike got hit by a school bus that did not see me when they were taking a left hand turn. No physical injury to me or my bride, but (almost) a mortal blow to the bike. I have it slowly being wrenched together, but not sure how much energy I want to dump into I bike I've logged over 80k
        • As I said, the element's not that much bigger than the bug, mostly taller, but with a shorter turning radius. It has *great* visibility. And a sweet manual transmission.

But it's just not my bug. I love my bug. It seems to wrap around me, womb-like.

It's like the difference between a wide-angle lens and a telepoho, I guess.

  • She broke the passenger side mirror off of her PT Cruiser when backing into the garage several days ago...

She bent the plastic housing and snapped off two out of 3 of the plastic receivers for the bolts holding it onto the door. I'm fairly confident that she did not bend the metal on the door, but I'm not certain. I kind of repaired it with Super Glue, but it still looks ghetto...

Memory fault - where am I?

Working...
