Journal KshGoddess's Journal: I love my husband. 8

Goddamnit, people, when the chips are down, I don't expect this kind of thing. My husband is the most supportive person of me.

I know that it shouldn't be surprising. I know that I should expect my spouse to be supportive. I know that I shouldn't be so happy about this. This should be normal.

But my relationships up to this point hadn't been this healthy. My reference points (dad, uncles, grandfather) weren't especially healthy, either.

Specifically, I've never had someone believe in me this much. I've always heard "you can't" and "you shouldn't" and "it's too hard".

So, I started an Etsy shop and I'll start back with eBay next month. I will start calling yarn shops to assess interest in my dyed yarn, and quilt shops to assess interest in my hand-dyed fabrics.

I'm going to start using my 3 "days off" more wisely, and I have the support of Ben to take a "Mental Health Day" if I need it. Because this place is BANANAS. B-A-N-A-N-A-S. [Sorry, people. I'm not taking it back. You can be stuck with that song in your head and complain.]

Today, I've finished embellishments on a sewn bag, and tonight, I'll take "action" pictures. After it's listed, I'll start on a felted bag. My yarn will be here this week to dye. I can spend some of my evening time cutting fabric into lengths to dye, and preparing yarn.

Happy Valentine's Day, people. I know it's not until Tuesday, but I don't generally celebrate. I don't need a special day to express my love, or to verify that I'm loved.

  • I wish you luck in your endeavors!

  • The grey and white skein of yarn you posted on your blog was gorgeous. If you end up with enough of that to do a king-sized afghan, let me know so I can pressure my mom into making me one :)

Course, it could be that that was enough yarn to do an afghan, what do I know?
    • Well, 1 - that was ncredibly rough wool, and 2 - I've never knitted an afghan. I'm thinking it would take 5-6 skeins of 'real yarn' (ie, 3000 or so yards of yarn)... I could dye some roving that color, though.
      • um...what's roving?

IM me with costs and such - if you can do the yarn, I can make a trip down to CS sometime after the baby is born to meet you to pick it up (probably in about a month, given I will need some recuperation time). My mother will be here in a week, I'll ask her how much yarn she'd need.

Do you and your hubby do stained glass for exterior windows? My husband's been spending a little too much time with the Scottish Stained Glass catalog...we have one of those windows on the side of our front do
  • Spooky. Looking at your Etsy shop, you're my other third. No, I mean almost literally. The house is full of Procion MX dyes, containers of Synthropol, and various dyed fabrics everywhere. We've got T-shirts that look all but identical to your "Glowing embers" and "Bruised sky" ones. The only real difference is that your prices are much lower than ours (presumably due to the lower cost of raw materials for you). A yard of dyed fabric from us is the equivalent of over US$17. But then, that's comparable with f

    • We'll be back on eBay in a couple weeks, too.

As a quilter, I've seen quilt fabric go for $17/yd. I've generally paid $10-12. $15 for an extra special piece.

We've got both Procion MX and acid dyes hanging 'round. Mmmm.... dye... and more fabric than you can shake a stick at. Yarn... is on its way.
