Comment Really depends on implementation (Score 1) 316

I like it in my current country because: 1) I'm not particularly fluent in the local language so communication with the cashier are more trouble than anything 2) there's one common line for all the self checkout, so you don't get stuck with picking the "bad" line There might be two store employees if lots of customer, or only one if not many. In other places i've been, they have a stupid limit of 4 registers per employee, with different lines for each grpup of 4, which brings back the "i picked the wrong line" problem. (Simple workaround would be to have one common area, and open as many registers as the number of employee allows.)

Until you are coerced by the state at the voting booth... Make the vote by providing bulletins with names on it, stack them outside for people to grab them, go to the isolation booth and pick the one they want to put in envelope. Have police officers duly note who took from other piles than the one with the incumbent.... That's vote secrecy in theory...

Comment This is just a correction (Score 1) 273

Downtowns were maintained and expanded well into a time then it was clear that coming to office was not necessary, because there were still people with lack of vision who failed to predict the shift and were ready to waste millions on real estate with no real value. Pandemic was just a correction for those stupid decisions from the past that continued way too long

I bought an Inspiron laptop in 2006, and used it till 2015 when something started going wrong in the battery/charging/ power part, and the aging performance warranted an upgrade to newer hardware rather than a fix. I guess it was quality enough. But back then, those were clearly not thin, the replacement being way thinner than they bottom part
