There are sooooooo many misconceptions and things I have seen about this topic that this has to be said... This is a much to do about NOTHING... and I will explain why:
(quotes are from a poster (Sycraft-fu) with some general concerns and I use them with the understanding that I am going to clear up these misconceptions... Sorry dude but your going to have to think outside of the box to the find the answer that you all seek and I have to use you as an example of why all these arguements and complaints I have seen online have absolutely no validity and it's a problem that is acrost the entire MMO market... Not just problems with Final Fantasy XIV and Square's crazy people whom are in charge... it's because all these people posting the questions and comments suck up to the great big dong in the gaming industry... Blizzard... Oh and by the way: EA is the asshole and can guess what Bioware and Bethesda would be? Definately the Tits...Yes I just compaired the gaming market to a tranny, get over it.)
"If the agreement is X dollars buys you Y days of access" -Not the case, Square uses a 30 day cycle period... It's the same way t-moble does their phone subscriptions. You pay from the 1st to 31th each month. You cancel in the middle of the month (say the 15th) you have untill the 30th then your account is disabled. You buy in on the 15th, your paying from the 1st to the 30th of that month... You will loose that first 15 days of that month. Same was for 11.
"Square sounds like they are still in the old "Us vs them," mentality" -Straight out... NO. This is Blizzard vs Square. The kids vs the old boys club. Square is trying desperately to get rid of the same old WOW format, because every single MMO is a WOW clone. It's a battle for market share and money (for example: I see complaints about the FF UI but if you open your eyes you can see WOW's is almost EXACTLY the same. Drag and drop is coming for FF, WOW didn't have it from the start either... It's all about "features". The overall look and FUNCTION of FF's UI is just fine, a bit confused why they won't let me re-size the party's satus window, again... Features. Did everyone forget all those UI hacks and cheats people released for WOW independently and probably got sued for making because theirs sucks/sucked balls too?).
Square is going for some kind of gusto, the changes of MMO philosophy are all over the game: From how you pay (using the 30 day system as oppose to keeping track of everyones different start times, whether that is a good thing or not I'm not really sure, kinda evil either way you look at it considering the FEE's you are nickeled and dimed for with both systems of pay) to how you gain exp (the new level/rank system in FF is nuts, they really are going out on a limb to change the way we play an MMO, so don't be confused by frustration because you don't UNDERSTAND how this new, insane system works. Honestly I don't find the WOW way: "level up a fully stocked character in 4 days" to be appealing... or fun. But the "not getting exp because I already spent 3 hours on a Job class today" isn't good either. They both suck.
Same paradigm as the auction house... Do you want instant gratification on obtaining that spear you want? or do you want to EARN it by scowering the land untill you find it? Two totally different philosiphies of gaming. I could easily have a fully completed character in a few days on WOW if I shell out some real mulah to get some gold, something like 12 hours to buy everything needed to start following and "earning" all the neccesary exp without ever attacking an enemy, 4 days later I'm ready for what I have seen called "end-game". Where it looks they are going to be keeping us at bay on 14 for at least a month or more untill you can actually get to the lv cap and find all those sought after equipment peices, that is of course if your not bat-shit crazy and play 24/7 while sitting on a toilet cause you won't even have time to shit. So once again... this is called Pacing... Most Square-Enix games have wonderfull pacing (looking for a great example from a different company? Half-Life). I'm sure they spend most of their time on this issue alone. (Not the pace of each fight, the pace of the entire game from beginning to "end"). Also when you say "end-game" you are shooting yourself in the foot. It's an MMO... there is no END GAME... and there is NO ENDGAME FOR WOW EITHER YOU JACKASSES! SO QUIT COMPLAINING ABOUT IT YOU IDIOTIC DENSE RETARDS! Is there an overload of content in FFXIV? no. Will there be? yes, but if everyone bails then there won't be. Why would Square waste the time programming all that shit if no one is going to play the game? We run into the "Pay for Updates" model that is going on with E.Q., XBOX LIVE, PS3 and EVERY PC GAME EVER MADE (tell me one game that has never had an update that has been released in the past 6 years?). You buy the game... it's not finished, it's the start or BUILD of the game... Then over time new content comes out in the form of UPDATES. Once they reach the level cap it's on to expansions. and so on... This hasn't changed and if you are going to complain about it... GO TALK TO THE DICKS AT BLIZZARD for making this model so goddamn profitable. It's how EVERY SINGLE MMO IS AND WILL EVER BE unless of course... the game is "free" and you buy the content... it's the same either way you look at it. So to the people saying this is terrible and Square has no content and blah blah blah, you are completely wrong and talking straight from the ass. Political parties do this all the time... "we didn't vote for that" (then it works) all of a sudden "we supported it".
'That means making your customers happy PARTICULARLY your angry ones." -have you ever worked in customer service? It's a shithole, insane place where people make a big deal about how they are getting fucked. Honestly a lot of peoples claims about FFXIV are completely bias, and has no bearing on the real problem or finding a real solution, especially based on what I have read online. Customer "complaints" as you call them are on a USER level. Ever worked in IT before? You know what I'm talking about... Otherwise, you need to start up a company and listen to the mindless dribble that comes from peoples mouths about how they are ENTITLED to something because they bought the game without READING THE USER AGREEMENT (see the articles about Blizzard sueing cheaters), or looking into what features the game offers BEFORE purchasing. By bending to the will of these squeaky wheels whatever company involved will therefore screw over the majority of players to accomodate the one ass who thinks he is playing something that is tailored to him. Seriously... Blizzard caring for their customers? Seriously, thats like saying EA is ethical. Why do they charge 30 bucks every time you need to do anything to your account? Because it is about MONEY!!! I have friends who have bought the game 3 or 4 times over because of the fee's they paid after their account was STOLEN and had to be recovered for the sole purpose of changing any credit card info that was linked with the account. You just have to be smart and know when to fight or flight. Not keeping what skills I've added to my action bar while I switch jobs is something to complain about... not "ahh they don't have an auction house". Angry customers should forever get the cold shoulder... as they should. They are talking out of their ass, 99.99999999% of the time and when you do appeal to them, they send every one of their ASSHOLE friends to take advantage of that individual handjob. Now you have to give two cause you gotta be equal in dividing up the love? Wrong... you appease that customer then go through all the motions again with the next user's complaint and repeat untill you die. This doesn't work, you will loose all your profits trying to appease and achieve a "customer is allways right" straight to the van down by the river. Cause that's where your going to live... In a van... down by the river. This is what you are really saying: "Ahh they are trying to make me actually play the game! How dare they impose such a restriction." It's one thing to pose some honestly needed changes... and it's another to scowel at something you don't understand.
Before anyone starts pointing the Fanboy finger, understand that I'm not a "fanboy". I love every single company that has ever made a game because I want diversity in my gaming market above all else. If a company makes a game I don't like, I don't HAVE to give them money... it's as simple as that. Do I want all this BS that is surrounding DRM and Blizzard sueing gamers for altering a product they purchased to suit their needs? No. Will I give in and buy Diablo 3 and play the shit out of it... Probably... I can't resist because the product will be worth the weight of every time I get locked out or not being able to play a round with my ROOMATE who has his computer less than 10 feet away from me, without connecting to a server half the way around the goddamn world... And thats the exact mentallity they want in gamers... Willing to accept that it will never be perfect and enjoy what is there, and what is given or provided. Not proving to them that we are insane ego driven individuals who believe that a company should tailor make everything for everyone. If I could spend the rest of my life going door to door and punching each one of your dumbass faces then I would... but sorry, I am middle class, and can't afford it.
Quit the ENTITLEMENT act. This new generation, my generation, has a huge problem with it... And it sadly manifests all over the internet as attacks on companies that are trying to give us entertainment, or like our government trying to make enough money to keep the ship afloat while you have all these assholes who think they are ENTITLED to things like health care. WE PAY TAXES FOR WATER!!!! AND YOU WANT FREE HEALTCARE??? W.T. FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU!!! Priorities people. What good does free health care provide if your going to the hospital for DEHYDRATION? Catch my drift? If you want a free market then YOU have to deal with/avoid the bad apples... If this were a communist or socialist market then when it's time for you get the bad apple, you take it whether you want it or not... Tough titty. Don't like the formula physiology and history gave us? Escape is just a bullet (or your nearest highway overpass) away. Are companies "playing God" with us gamers? of course it's what all humans seek. Power over another to justify their own existance (I matter because I have minions that depend on me, it's the only reason why online gaming is so fuckin popular). I don't think that motovator has changed since... oh I dunno, the dawn of man. Instead of a pharoh or king we have Blizzard or Square-Enix. Who dictates the right and wrong way to do everything under their juristiction. Their juristiction being the game they created... Do I like this idea... no. Is this what we get for empowering corperations? Yes. So unless you plan on tearing the whole system down over Final Fantasy XIV I would just give up on the complaining... Don't like it? Please don't post unless it's constructive comment that if someone from Square read... they would go... Hmm... actually he/she is making a good point. That was the purpose for creating of all this online banter and blogging in the first place, for the opinions to get out there, to share the idea's and to find a solution on how to move forward... The scientific model. Are people nuts? yes... I am crazy for even trying to explain this problem, that seems like a few tweaks on the surface... but in all reality, you are complaining about Philosophies of Coperations as if they are bugs or fixes and we have to deviate a bit to get everyone on the same page... Godamn singularity cannot come fast enough.
I will give Square the benifet of the doubt on this one... just because they are new to the PC gaming market, allow me to explain... I mean they are so dense as to make a COUNSOLE MMO for computer gamers, how could they possibly know what to do with all these complaints and bad reviews? LOL. Totally different markets and totally different wants and needs. Also, screw Square Enix and Blizzard for posing questions to us gamers about the human psycosis (living in a world dictated to us not by destiny, but by an individual's (or group of individual's) ideal (this is mirrored for games and real life); without even knowing the impact it would have (millions of poeple questioning whether or not the MMO has completely lost it's appeal unless it's made by Blizzard because of mob rule or simply being sheeple and accepting Blizzard's ideal, and not ANYTHING else or something new... It's like Jews Vs Christains all over again, the old world vs the new... Obviously I'm not talkin about just Square-Enix here, there are a myriad of companies Blizzard and their fanboys have layed waste to over the years, with no justifiable position than to just simply say "WOW does it better", which is in turn unfair to everyone because you are ignoring the first 3 years WOW was out, that UNBALENCED piece of shit that it used to be... go look up the complaints by digging around the net for a while, all the same ones are there for WOW as there are for FFXIV). 14 would make a KILLING on consoles for a few reasons: there is an Online RPG black hole, Square traditionally a controller based console company, and the most important it won't bring the wrath of WOW fanboys, because it's not in the same market. For all intensive purposes, it is a pretty good build of a game that will GROW into something that hundreds of thousands of Square-Enix fanboys will love, millions of us will enjoy. and billions will say "what huge waste of my time".
