Comment Ergonomics is for real - don't make light of it! (Score 1) 169

Listen up naysayers. I have been using a keyboard and mouse most of my life, and I never paid any attention to all that stuff about RSI, carpal tunnelling, or ergonomics. I figured that it was just a myth that people were cashing in on.

Six months ago however I started to get severe muscular problems with my right wrist and my neck. Side effects include involuntary muscular twitches and shaking, and sharp pains. It scares the crap out of my GF when my hand can't stop shaking or my neck twitches as if I had some kind of tic (I don't)

There are days when I can't even hold a cup of tea. That's scary for 2 reasons : firstly the health concerns, and secondly the thought of losing my livelihood. I mean, without being able to type or use a mouse I would find it pretty hard to earn a living.

The natural reaction when you face something like this is to get scared and throw as much money as you can at buying expensive equipment. I believe many of the companies listed in this thread are cashing in on people's fears and concerns.

I think it is possible to find a comfortable, safe working environment cheaply. MS mice are great, and the MS Natural keyboard has really helped me a lot. Also, the more adjustible your chair is, the better as far as I am concerned.

Please don't make light of this topic. Ergonomic furniture may be a con-job, but the issues and problems are for real.
