I can tell you that you probably lost a lot of intelligent employees who actually understand the subject more than you. Since you chose the candidate based on your narrow idea of ninja, you are the one who missed out.
A Ninja is simply trained to handle various situations and scenarios -- even through non-combative means. From espionage, pretending to be the pirate ship's cook and poisoning food supply, to sneaking up onto a boat at sea at night and assassinating all the pirates on board, they don't even need to fight to win the battle.
Be it modern or antiquated pirates, they do not stand a chance against a trained non-mythical Ninja.
