Comment Is this just some viral marketing for MANK ? (Score 1) 124

Mank (a film about Kane) was in the running this year and put a spotlight on Citizen Kane. If you know the story about it it being about some newspaper tycoon who did not want a film about him being made by Welles, its not hard to imagine some one digging up some 80-year-old-fake-news-review to promote it SAD. I really dont like this revisionist history. -K

Submission + - Why is America getting a new $100 billion nuclear weapon? (thebulletin.org)

DanDrollette writes: A comprehensive look at the US' new (and expensive, unnecessary, and highly vulnerable) land-based nuclear missile. Many of the missile’s critics are former military leaders, and their criticism has to do with its immovable silos. Relative to nuclear missiles on submarines, which can slink around undetected, or nuclear bombs on airplanes—the two other legs of the nuclear "triad"—America’s land-based nuclear missiles are easy marks.

Seriously we all have had at least one application or one piece of hardware that simply would not work in wine. Be it through an obscure piece of hardware or an obscure API call microsoft know the cost / benefit ration in not doing this. For me i have some shimano diagnostic software at work that does not play with wine and at home i never used windows 10 since testing the alpha because it would never to this day work with an expensive 16 channel firewire soundcard. What the ??? Iphones have had 24bit 48khz playback from the jack since the iphone 4. I had to convert it to ALAC and down convert the sample rate from my hi-res masters but 24bit 48khz sounded great. My iPhone 6 was packed with 24bit and i was furious when they removed the jack. but even then The lightning dongles do 24bit rather well. If you are gonna bitch, bitch about BT and no APT-X HD or LDAC codecs ... that situation is ridiculous especially since they removed the jack

Comment THAT NEW HEAT-SHIELD ! (Score 1) 156

One big technology he announced that may of flown under the radar was that they claim they have a developed a much thinner and lighter glass tile heat-shield that is fully reusable due to the fact the stainless steel steel structure can handle the heat on the back side of tile. Thats a massive WTF NASA moment for me as the Space Shuttle was so goddamn expensive and time consuming to maintain due to its incredibly delicate and intricate ceramic tiles system. Nice one Elon ! keep embarrassing NASA and all its porky contractors.
