As an interviewer of technical people, my favorite question is, "Tell me about the most interesting technical challenge you went through in the past couple of months, and how you overcame it." Peel through a couple of those and you can really get a feel for the depth of a person. It's a challenge that the person worked through, so they should really understand the details. You aren't putting someone on the spot to think of something in 1 minute. If it's someone in a semi-leadership position that is theoretically coding and leading, and they have nothing except things their team did.. you understand what the true mix of their activities are. If someone says that they are an Enterprise Architect but the most interesting challenge was fixing a low-level memory leak, it's a bit of a red flag. Not that a good architect can't fix a memory leak, but it prompts some follow up questions.. is EA more aspirational but you've been doing other things?
This also works for things that are non-technical. Project Managers should have interesting and detailed stories about interpersonal issues, or schedule risk.. etc.

Various laptop models from multiple manufacturers (Apple, Dell, HP, Lenovo, and others) are affected. NVidia blames it on bad chip packaging causing thermal failure. BIOS updates that turn the laptop fan on more frequently or permanently have been released by Dell and HP. The cynical interpretation is that this is likely to only delay the problem until the warranty has expired."

eggled writes "My boss makes mobile presentations fairly frequently, but is sick of lugging around his gargantuan laptop (a Toshiba A25-S207). It's fallen to me to see if I can solve this for him. I began looking at netbooks and such, but many of them are slightly high for our price bracket (being that he already owns a fully functional laptop; this will be a presentations-only machine). His current cell phone, a Motorola RAZR, is getting decrepit and the contract is up, so I figured I'd look at smartphone-style replacement, and let AT&T subsidize the cost of the new phone. What I'm hoping to find is a phone that can be attached to a VGA-input projector, and play Powerpoint presentations (PDF would work, too). Web access is a must, but I think I'd be hard pressed to buy a high end phone that won't have internet access, so I'm unconcerned on that topic. Anybody out there have experience with this sort of thing or have suggestions on what route to take?"

Please mod this parent up. If people would actually follow the link and read the manual, ignoring the obvious editorializing of the bold sections, they would get a very different impression of the material. Maybe they still wouldn't agree with it, but this OP is completely biased.
