Schools for "poor" kids of all persuasions grossly inflate grades. For example, a friend was sent to one to increase the "cred" of her Education department management ladder climbing mother, and was a straight A student..Then mommy worked out her daughter could not spell for her age. Quietly sent to a private school where it was revealed she was really only a C & D grade student.
The point of high school is do you have the underlying knowledge to get by in society? University is where you find out if you really have the nous.
