Comment Thatâ(TM)s not all that social media does. (Score 2) 275

Honestly, I think slashdot is just a microcosm of the toxicity that is social media. Every single time I go to the comment section of this site I lose faith in humanity. Social media seems to remove certain parts of social interaction that are necessary for basic civility. It has become toxic beyond belief. And our lack of faith in people online has bled over to a lack of trust and respect for people in the real world. Itâ(TM)s enough to kill oneâ(TM)s faith in high tech for human bettermentâ"honestly it is.

Right. I have no idea why so many hateful conservative people seem to be posting on slashdot: it makes the entire site look bad. I mean thereâ(TM)s a bunch of Nazi propaganda above your post for chrissakes! To be clear: I am wholly in favour of legal immigration only, and only at sustainable levels. I believe the penalty is for illegal immigration should be as harsh as possible, if thatâ(TM)s what will deter illegal immigration. Having said that, most people here simply do not care about the children involved dismissing their suffering out of hand. Disgraceful.

It seems like most of these issues arise from the fact that representatives in the US can vote with their conscience: individual house representatives can be bought and sold. The real issue in the US is the fact that you can lobby individual lawmakers. To contrast: in Canada individual lawmakers have to forward with their party or the risk being expelled. It therefore makes very little sense to lobby individual lawmakers and it is a consequently much more expensive for a company to bribe a an entire party. The political system, like most issues with the US, is to blame here. Modernization is required ASAP, but by its very nature of the system is resistant to change. I have very little hope for the country.

Honestly, fuck both of you apologists for evil as well: Fucko #1: false dichotomy. any thinking human being allows injustice anywhere to bother him or her. At least to some extent. Even if I did suffer from anger issues, which I do not, that would not preclude the possibility of caring about other issues affecting other people. Thatâ(TM)s a very narrow, and idiotic, view of the world. Fucko #2: Strawman fallacy. I do not get off on punishing those were better off than me. But it is plain and refutable that there are a gigantic number of humans in the world who have disproportionately benefitted largely due to circumstances beyond their control, and there are also a large number of people who suffer. It is a responsible to ignore obscene wealth as a social issue, just as it is irresponsible to ignore the suffering of the poor. I forgot what it was like to comment on this website, so no further responses will be read or replied to.

Iâ(TM)m in the same boat. Used to greatly prefer Google and Android, but now Apple is the only large tech firm that I trust to protect my privacy (somewhat): They have very, very loudly and repeatedly integrated a pro consumer privacy stance into their entire business model. Which means if they renege, at this point, it will cost them a lot of money.
