The cool thing about the desktop Applications that are written by Asians for Asians like Hancom Office. Quite frankly since most of Asia (asides from Japan) is still developing world most people cant afford the microsoft apps, (windows xp is alot when you make 300$ a month) which is one of the reasons software piracy is so widespread over there.
Also the author didnt seem to be saying anything about linux taking over the desktop as you seem to be implying. When I actually read the article, it seemed to me that he was implying Linux's overall marketshare and more importantly brain-share would be growing, and "that some of the biggest advances we're going to see in the next year will come from Asia."
