My high school's computer system was a DEC PDP-11/34 running RSTS/E. It sat in a glass-enclosed room with a locked door. I would work on the ASR-33s and the punch tape terminals day and night, writing BASIC and TECO programs to do all sorts of things. Eventually, one of the math teachers, who was in charge of the computer but not terribly proficient at managing it, asked me and my best friend if we'd like to take over the day-to-day feeding. Of course we would! We spent so many hours in there, toggling the front panel switches as necessary to boot up the system and administer user accounts and such. It was such a joy for a youngster.
