Sony Dismisses Critics of Lair 55

Despite some very public, very negative criticism of Factor 5's dragon/shooter Lair, Next Generation notes that Sony remains unfazed. "Outgoing SCEA PR boss Dave Karraker told Next-Gen in a phone interview that despite poor critical reception, the flying lizard game isn't necessarily grounded. 'At the end of the day, I'll be interested in the consumers' response, because the consumer awareness for this title was so huge.'" Meanwhile, MTV's Stephen Totilo notes, with more than a touch of seriousness, that Lairs production may have been a touch cursed.

Xbox Live Disallows Linux, Unix As Keywords 281

shafty023 writes "The Xbox Live online service disallows screen names like LINUXRULES, L I N U X, and other variations of these kinds. Other bloggers are reporting that variants of 'Unix' also result in the message: 'Your motto contains inappropriate language. Please try again.'" If this is an extension of Microsoft's anti-Linux campaign, perhaps it's time they gave it up.

Submission + - Copyright advocacy group violates copyright (scienceblogs.com)

word munger writes: "Commercial scholarly publishers are beginning to get afraid of the open access movement. They've hired a high-priced consultant to help them sway public opinion in favor of copyright restrictions on taxpayer-funded research. Funny thing is, their own website contains several copyright violations. It seems they pulled their images directly from the Getty Images website — watermark and all — without paying for their use! Clearly their agenda is simply to make using copyrighted materials inconvenient and expensive for everyone but THEMSELVES."

Journal Journal: PETA game infringes Nintendo copyright

If you could find a picture next to the phrase "copyright infringement" in the dictionary, a screenshot of the Super Chick Sisters would be right next to it. This foul play has gamers fuming, not in disgust like PETA wanted, but angry because PETA commited the most clear definition of copyright infringement in what is yet another attempt by the extremist animal rights group to brainwash children.

Feed Engadget: VIA readying one-watt Eden processor? (engadget.com)

Apparently, VIA is hoping to stretch the battery life of devices that sport its forthcoming ULV processor, as the chip manages to hum along at 500MHz yet only consumes one-watt of power. According to DigiTimes, the company announced the CPU during a press conference held yesterday, and also noted that it will "adopt the same VIA V4 bus and 21- x 21-millimeter nanoBGA2 packaging as other Eden models." Reportedly, several industrial PC makers "including Advantech have already adopted the new Eden ULV processor" and hopes to have products shipping to market later this month, and if this thing actually does sip power as its creator suggests, we've all ideas Advantech won't be the last firm placing an order.

While I cannot say with absolute certainty, one of the URLs for the "Download Now" link, Number 5 - BreakQuest specifically, is as follows:

Notice the referrer? Notice the article's submitter?
Maybe a thorough reading of the article is in order before being a condescending ass.
