Because it pretty much always takes a stupid mistake to generate a nuclear disaster. Reactors are generally quite safe unless you really screw the pooch.

Have the RAM dump into a non-volatile solid state chip? (eg. flash) It would allow for very fast power on/off while keeping the power draw really low.

Successful and fertile people should be encouraged to procreate. Or at least produce some gametes so that similarly gifted people can. Yeah, I know, eugenics and all that, but still.

That reason could be that the metabolic expense is too high for someone who lives off 1000 Calories a day. Not really a problem for most 1st world folks nowadays...
