MS Design Lets You Put Batteries In Any Way You Want 453

jangel writes "While its strategy for mobile devices might be a mess, Microsoft has announced something we'll all benefit from. The company's patented design for battery contacts will allow users of portable devices — digital cameras, flashlights, remote controls, toys, you name it — to insert their batteries in any direction. Compatible with AA and AAA cells, among others, the 'InstaLoad' technology does not require special electronics or circuitry, the company claims."

Beyond pixel resolution, the largest thing digital lacks is dynamic range (range between the brightest areas and the darkest). What film still does better than most dSLRs is capture more details in the highlights while preserving detail in the shadows. This is critical to better reproducing what our eyes see. Digital tricks in post to mimic dynamic range (like HDR photography) usually just look awkward and incorrect.

The MPAA has denied knowing the manner in which the information was obtained. They claim they did not know that there was any hacking involved. So the burden of proof would be on the govt. to prove that they willfully and knowingly participated in the illegal gathering of information. I'm sure the MPAA covered their tracks well - this will not be an easy thing for the govt. to go after (assuming that they even wanted to, in the first place).
