Nothing - not even stupidity - will be able to stop it then from becoming smarter and smarter, and doing it's own thing. Like surviving stupid 'elected' leaders. Chances for humanity versus AI seem small... And the level of complete lack of understanding of AI by this 'journalist' might be an illustration why.

Well the suppressed need defense. Otherwise you say any kind of 'defense' is bad. Are you blind to see what problems are caused by racism and sexism in the world? White supremacists who claim to be discriminated against? Oh, the irony! As soon as at least 35% of the US senators and top 100 of richest people in the world are black or women, you can start bitching. But until that time, shut the fuck up or act against racism and sexism! The only place in the world where there's active and effective discrimination against white people is in South Africa. And still it has very little impact on the economical injustice. Critisism on how things are dealt with in South Africa might be justified, I believe they are still seeking how to best handle stuff. But not in the US nor any other part of the world!

Being nice to non-minority people is also covered in the Code of conduct, yes. And accepting collaboration from groups funding extra back or gay hands doesn't mean that your not nice to white people. Except from a very strange linguistic interpretation, the only reason I see why someone could be against it, is from a view of 'white supremacy'. Hope that in this case it's the first reason; compiler people might focus too much on the syntax part ;)

In the past, panel gap differences up to 3mm are deemed 'acceptable' by Tesla. Especially in Europe it is considered very strange. People working frequently with body shops here consider that the limit for crashed car repairs. It's good Elon Musk considers this an issue and addresses this. The 'general public's might be less understanding about this minor flaw than us 'believers', who bought the cars to accelerate the transition to sustainable energy useage (and because it runs Linux ;)

Here in Belgium, in the heart of the EU, it's only frustration. The more you look at YouTube, the more ads get stuffed into your content. But 'Youtube Red is not available in your area'. So we can't even pay. Added to that, the legislation in our country explicitly bans and regulates ads towards children. Effectively making these actions by Google not only frustrating but ILLEGAL!

It's a return trip ticket always. And the number is low enough to be affordable for many people who are determined enough and are willing to give everything to be part of the mars genesis.

As the middle class level evaporates due to increased divide between poor an ritch, accelerated by mass automation, this will change and that's why it needs to happen before 2035.

Its sad to see the slashdot public, which should be a little bit informed about the issue, blatantly ignoring whats happening here.

It isn't hard to imagine run away AI. Scifi is full of it. But I find it hard to imagine that humans will create an institution to prevent that on a worldwide scale before it's too late. Elon is clearly an optimist.

It's only after Hiroshima that nuclear proliferation became an issue. Only after the Netherlands was massively flooded that they started their Deltaworks. Only after big scandals where things go utterly wrong that we start with regulation and enforcement.

So I would be surprised if we - as a species - get this right and survive this one. We're probably too dumb, as most of the posts in this thread illustrate.
