You're assuming that most people have the luxury of having the time to learn this stuff. Until you show me the average person that science direcly impacts their ability to put food on their table and roof over their heads then they will not give a shit. Nor should they. Advanced knowledge of science is a burgeoise indulgence with little application in every day life.
