Journal Jack William Bell's Journal: Dvorak drinks the koolaid 3

Until recently John C. Dvorak, professional curmudgeon and computer industry commenter, has been dismissive of blogs and blogging. Then he suddenly changed his tune. Now Dvorak is this week's guest blogger on Boing Boing!

His first halfway-interesting-but-still-bloviating post (other than predictable Bush-bashing, MS-bashing and Maxim links)? Men with breasts...

No, I am not going to comment on that. Must... Resist...

Dvorak drinks the koolaid

  • I subscribe to PC mag out of habit I guess, usually Dvorak's collums are speculative at best, but one thing that caught my eye this month is:

Killer applications for broadband. A small company called Vonage is taking advantage of the Cisco ATA 186 phone-to-network router. Vonage now offers a high-quality phone serviceâ"and provides you with a local numberâ"for a flat monthly fee of $39.95, with unlimited nationwide calls (as well as Canada). You can make calls to London for 5 cents a minute, too

    • That is very cool! I am in the same boat: I have a cellphone and a cable modem, but no regular phone service at my apartment in Grand Rapids. Of course we do have a regular phone line (and DSL) at our place in Seattle.
  • I can't believe he still has a job writing professionally for the computer industry. His columns are always the worst kind of regurgitated myth, rumor, and urban legend. And his version of Microsoft Word seems to have a problem with the bold button.

If you followed the link and read about gynecomastia, don't believe what he wrote. Soy is very healthy, and the Japanese (who eat orders of magnitude more soy than most Americans) do not experience the problems he describes. In fact, they have much lower rat
