EA Shutting Down Video Game Servers Prematurely 341

Spacezilla writes "EA is dropping the bomb on a number of their video game servers, shutting down the online fun for many of their Xbox 360, PC and PlayStation 3 games. Not only is the inclusion of PS3 and Xbox 360 titles odd, the date the games were released is even more surprising. Yes, Madden 07 and 08 are included in the shutdown... but Madden 09 on all consoles as well?"

Not to be rude, but actually this is incorrect. At low pressures there is some odd behavoir, but on a planetary scale the melting point of water increases with increasing pressure. Ice has several different crystal structures called polymorphs that change as pressure increases. Each requires greater and greater temperature to melt. This is a good page on the water molecule and its behavoir: http://www.lsbu.ac.uk/water/index2.html.

Submission + - Group puts Windows Update library on CD (apcmag.com)

KrispyKofta writes: "When was the last time you installed a fresh copy of Windows XP SP2? The process is still straightforward and relatively quick...but then you think "I'll just make sure the patches are up to date", and then proceed to stare with horror at the 100+ security updates and critical fixes which Windows Update or WSUS demands you install. And it takes forever. Now, a group has put all of the updates into one downloadable CD, from which you can update PCs without an internet connection. It's poor man's XP SP3, but even when SP3 is out, the project will continue to offer a CD which will install all patches offline."

Submission + - OOXML Better than ODF for Enterprise Organizations (burtongroup.com) 1

Noonian Soong writes: "The Burton Group, an IT research company, published a study which claims enterprise organizations should adapt OOXML rather than ODF. Their reasons include things like "ODF is controlled indirectly by Sun", "MS Office is cheaper than OpenOffice.org" and "OOXML improved many problems of DOC". The Burton Group also claims that although ODF is well-designed, OOXML is better suited for the specific needs of enterprise organizations. Guy Creese, one of the authors, writes in his blog that "like all Burton Group research, [this study] is a completely vendor-independent perspective"; a statement which seems questionable considering that the study will be presented at a Microsoft press conference. Of course, Sun has a totally different perspective towards ODF."
