Ink Breakthrough Heralds Bendy PC Screens 140

An anonymous reader writes "Researchers claim to have developed a type of soluble semiconductor ink which could help to make bendable computer screens a reality. Developed at Polyera and BASF Future Business, the ink carries an N-Type negative charge. Previously, semiconductor inks have only been able to carry a positive charge. The new ink can be printed onto any flexible material, including plastic and paper, using only a modified ink-jet printer."

Oldest Weapons-grade Plutonium Found In Dump 552

Urchin writes "Researchers have just identified the first batch of weapons-grade plutonium ever made. The batch was produced as part of the Manhattan Project, but predates Trinity — the first nuclear weapon test — by seven months. It was unearthed in a waste pit at Hanford, Washington, inside a beaten up old safe."

Roland Piquepaille Dies 288

overheardinpdx writes "I'm sad to report that longtime HPC technology pundit Roland Piquepaille (rpiquepa) died this past Tuesday. Many of you may know of him through his blog, his submissions to Slashdot, and his many years of software visualization work at SGI and Cray Research. I worked with Roland 20 years ago at Cray, where we both wrote tech stories for the company newsletter. With his focus on how new technologies modify our way of life, Roland was really doing Slashdot-type reporting before there was a World Wide Web. Rest in peace, Roland. You will be missed." The notice of Roland's passing was posted on the Cray Research alumni group on Linked-In by Matthias Fouquet-Lapar. There will be a ceremony on Monday Jan. 12, at 10:30 am Paris time, at Père Lachaise.

Comment Apple? (Score 0) 256

Companies just love to mention cool new Apple products in any of their product briefs: "it can be used in laptops such as the Macbook Air". The all-new Diet Coke, can be drank while listening to Apple's iPod!!! Utterly irrelevant... And in this case- FALSE. The Macbook Air uses 1.8" hard drives, this drive will NOT fit into it. Maybe they could get some other tie-in to look cool. "This drive can be used in an external box connected to Apple's iMac!!!".

Tabula Rasa To Shut Down 244

NCSoft announced today that it will be closing down Tabula Rasa on February 28th. The sci-fi shooter-flavored MMO struggled for quite some time, despite recent attempts to draw in new players by announcements of new features, price reductions, and using Richard Garriott's trip into space as a promotion. We discussed Garriott's departure from NCSoft a couple weeks ago. This is NCSoft's second failed MMO, and apparently layoffs are in the works. They seem to be making an effort to make the game's last few months as fun as they can for their remaining players, though. "Before we end the service, we'll make Tabula Rasa servers free to play starting on January 10, 2009. We can assure you that through the next couple of months we'll be doing some really fun things in Tabula Rasa, and we plan to make staying on a little longer worth your while."

This woman is a complete idiot. Not only does she lose her own money, but encourages other Nigerian scammers to scam others. If people didn't fall for it, they would stop doing it. Not to mention that SHE too is a criminal. I think people have way to much sympathy for people like her. She is NOT an innocent victim, she herself voluntarily participated in a fraudulent scam, and she was clearly aware that her actions were not legal. The fact that she in turn got scammed just does her justice. She should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
