Comment A liberal meritocracy (Score 0) 238

I am a strong proponent of giving young people the opportunity to compete. eg - a laptop for every kid; broadband for every kid; free lunch for every kid. However, that's where it stops. They must compete from there with all their disabilities for the prize of excellence. The cards of life are not dealt evenly, and we should celebrate the success of the strongest among us lest we fall into the trap outlined by Vonnegut in Harrison Bergeron.

Given our relationship with North Korea, I would characterize this as treason. This definitely fits the legal definition of "giving aid and comfort to enemies of the US." No average NK citizen has access to the internet. This was obviously an NK government operation. The punishment should be severe. Very very severe.

Cheap labor seduced the US into the biggest wealth transfer in the history of the world as China stole US technology because of cyber espionage and demanding technology sharing from US manufacturers in China. This mistake has cost us everything as China grows into a military threat. They couldn't have done this without our complacency to their theft. Why did we put America Second?

Comment I simply don't understand James's logic (Score 1) 28

She is holding a company accountable because they have a service that lets people send money. The basis of the lawsuit is not that the service has security holes and exploits. The basis of the lawsuit is that people sent money with their consent to people they shouldn't have and are upset about it. By this logic the entire SWIFT system is to blame. The phone companies that carried the duper's calls are to blame. The school system for raising a fool ia to blame. There is no case here. I have no financial interest in any of this, I just think this is really dumb. It's absurd.
