Funny enough, when I went complete cablecard (Tivo) and purchased my own modem, Comcast used to give me back $2.50/month for "customer owned equipment." That discount is long gone now but AFAIK I am not paying any fees or price differences as a result of owning my own stuff.

As a consultant, it does allows us to work in the customer's environment (in Azure or in their on-prem) but still use our local machines. All the code, etc, works in their network and we no longer need slow VPN's or crappy Citrix remote connections.
