I am in Québec and I was the victim of an *intentional* aggression by a surgeon that left me with a handicapped left arm. I am in the process of complaining to the medical college. I could not file a lawsuit because the system in Québec in biased against malpractice victims. This makes it so that surgeons can intentionally butcher anyone they dislike for whatever reason.

The "Bloody Mess" That Is Intel's Poulsbo Driver 231

AdamWill writes "Phoronix writes about the mess that is the Linux support situation for Intel's new graphics chipset, the GMA 500 — aka Poulsbo. Near the end they refer to my own post on the topic ('Okay, so after a whole day spent bashing around at this crap, I can very confidently and conclusively say, it's utterly broken'). Intel has a reputation as one of the most clued-up open source-friendly hardware companies, but if they can't sort out the mess surrounding the driver for this chipset — which is already used on the Dell Mini 12 and Sony Vaio P, and will be used on many future Intel-based systems — that reputation will take a serious hit."

I just realised: it is possible to put a camera in a TV that uses the lens that seems to be for the infrared remote control. It is technically difficult but not impossible. Question that remains is, has it ever been done?

I have seen spy cameras disguised as other things. For example a wall clock with a black dot that happens to be a spy camera.

Linux is not communism. Part of the appeal of Linux is that Microsoft abuses its monopoly to eliminate competition (OS/2, BeOS, Wordperfect, QuickTime, etc...). By defending competition, freedom of choice and a free market, Linux defends capitalistic ideals. And people are allowed to sell Linux: SuSE does just that.

Earliest LHC Restart Slated For Late Summer 2009 229

gaijinsr writes "The damage done in what CERN calls the 'S34 Incident' (and what other people call a major explosion in the cryogenics system) is much more serious than originally admitted: The earliest possible restart date is late summer next year, but with some proposed improvements to avoid repetitions of the incident, it looks more like 2010. They kept this pretty quiet up to now, not the kind of information policy I would expect from CERN."
