Welcome to the future, sorry about the lack of jetpacks. The issue is that you have the old school way of doing things vs. the new school way of doing things.
So for example, in SC1, who gave a crap if you cheated at single player - it had no bearing whatsoever on anyone else's experience. Now we have externally visible achievements, portraits, etc. - potential bragging rights but when cheating is rampant, they become cheapened, therefore ruining everyone's experience. I just spent a bunch of time unlocking achievements on Hard in single player, and if some jerkoff 14 year old kid goes and does the same thing, well then the cool little portraits I just worked to unlock just became uncool. So basically, in SC2 (and get used to it in the future!), it is always multiplayer - whether you are playing with someone else - the game you purchased may be "yours" ,but the experience is "everyone else's". Cheaters ruined games like CS for me, so I'm glad a company took a stand and banned all cheating, it only makes it more likely they will keep the game free of online cheats.
On a side note, who the hell needs to cheat on SC2? I am not an RTS veteran by any stretch of the imagination, and I flew through the game on hard. My fiance, who only plays games like Zelda and Mario lost one mission on normal.
Finally, if you want to boycott Blizz, go ahead - you are the only one missing out here. There are maybe 3 developers out there that I will play through every single game they release because, no matter the genre, it will always be a really solid, polished, fun experience - obviously Blizz is one of them.
