Comment Darwin Shoots Down His Own Theory! (Score -1) 170

Charles Darwin, “On the Origin of Species”, 6th Edition, 1872 Chapter 5 “Modes Of Transition” "If it could be demonstrated that any complex organ existed, which could not possibly have been formed by numerous, successive, slight modifications, my theory would absolutely break down.” Page 220. Chapter 4 “Organs of Extreme Perfection And Complication” “To suppose that the eye with all its inimitable contrivances for adjusting the focus to different distances, for admitting different amounts of light, and for the correction of spherical and chromatic aberration, could have been formed by natural selection, seems, I freely confess, absurd in the highest degree.” Page 215. Inimitable: : not capable of being imitated. Absurd: : ridiculously unreasonable, unsound. Darwin gives proof, in his own words, that his theory is "absurd in the highest degree"!

The more you speak, the more you show your ignorance of the Facts & Laws of Science/Physics. If you would like to hear the Evidence then reply, if not, then just mock and ridicule me. I find the Facts and Truth hard to deny.

Its a change in magnetic variation (deviation is the discrepency in a magnetic compass due to its electromagnitic surroundings). Happens all the time. It's only when the change exceeds certain tollerances that they change the runway numbers. And those tollerances all depend on when that particular airport was last numbered.

Cloudstar's statement is true. We have a saying: "East is Least and West is Best". Back in the days of VORs, when plotting a course, you ADD (West) or Subtract (East) to your planned Compass Heading by the Magnetic Deviation for your flight path. Where I live, it's 7West. I haven't flown for 15 years now.

Submission + - Putin Orders Russian Move to GNU/Linux (blogspot.com) 2

Glyn Moody writes: Vladimir Putin has signed an order calling for Russian federal authorities to move to GNU/Linux, and for the creation of "a single repository of free software used in the federal bodies of executive power". There have been a number of Russian projects to roll out free software, notably in the educational sector, but none so far has really taken off. With the backing of Putin, could this be the breakthrough free software has been waiting for?

This is NEWS? Nokia Makes multi-touch interactive display made of Ice "Touchscreens have been with us for quite some time now and we have seen all kind of them, resistive touch, capacitive, multi-touch, etc. However, Nokia’s research lab in Tampere, Finland has developed a rather unique kind of touchscreen, a touchscreen made of ice. Well to be honest it’s not really a touchscreen for everyday use, nor is it very portable as the rig includes a projector and some infrared cameras which are connected to a computer, but after all it’s a touch screen made out of ice and that is quite remarkable. Nokia says that this “Playful experiment” reveals that interactive touch displays can be built anywhere and we are very sure that Mr. Freeze from Batman will be highly interested in the project. Watch the MAGIC ice in action after the break."

Submission + - Internet Blacklist Back in Congress (rawstory.com)

Adrian Lopez writes: A bill giving the government the power to shut down Web sites that host materials that infringe copyright is making its way quietly through the lame-duck session of Congress, raising the ire of free-speech groups and prompting a group of academics to lobby against the effort.

The Combating Online Infringement and Counterfeits Act (COICA) was introduced in Congress this fall by Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-VT). It would grant the federal government the power to block access to any Web domain that is found to host copyrighted material without permission.

Opponents note that the powers given the government under the bill are very broad. Because the bill targets domain names and not specific materials, an entire Web site can be shut down. So for example, if the US determines that there are copyright-infringing materials on YouTube, it could theoretically block access to all of YouTube, whether or not particular material being accessed infringes copyright.
