If you're nostrils would stick together because it's cold, then it would be because the layer of moisture freezes them together.

Anyway, whether it's sticking or freezing doesn't matter within this context much, because neither happens at those temperatures.

Yes it does. I've been there enough times to know that.

For fucks sake, for one, the majority of the world uses Celsius, for another, if you're talking about a country that uses metric units, use metric units! It doesn't make sense in context otherwise. I'd never expect to see temperatures in the US expressed in Celsius, so why are we expressing temperatures in Canada and Italy in Fahrenheit?!

It's sloppy an inconsistent writing.

This is dumb. Axios is an American publication catering to an American audience so they're going to use units that are standard in the US. Should they have written the article in Italian since the article is about a heatwave in Sicily? For a second there they mention Greece and Turkey, should they switch to Turkish and Greek for those sentences?

TBH you could be making up the 212F thing, I don't know the number and don't have it memorized because I don't need to know it. Water boils when the kettle gets hot and steam pours out. That's the boiling point. I don't need a thermometer to tell me that a kettle is boiling when I can just look at it.

The thing you gotta explain is the purpose of the numbers between 40 and 100 C. If we’re doing science or engineering, sure I get it, but when we’re measuring air temps, those numbers are meaningless. You might as well get rid of them because nobody ever experiences them. On the other end of the scale, 0 C just gives you a moderately cold temperature that occurs fairly commonly, and there’s a bunch of other cold temps below that are also common, but they’re all negative numbers

So I propose a new Celsius, let’s shift the current 40C up to about 110C where the number would indicate it’s relative level of comfort, and then drop 0C down to where -15 or -20C is currently. That way you can use the full range of numbers for measuring air temps and you can be more precise without having to stoop to using decimals.

No, at -20F your nostrils don't stick together. This doesn't happen until you're dead. And there's really no functional difference between 0F and 10F, you need to dress the similarly.

You clearly haven't spent a winter skiing at -20F or woken before dawn all winter to deliver newspapers and had to wear a balaclava because your ears would freeze off. Trust me, -20F is the temperature where your nostrils stick together when you're breathing through them.

Face it, Fahrenheit is just more logical for people. You wanna do science, do Celsius, but knowing that 100 degrees is unpleasantly hot is just simpler.

Fahrenheit is a human scale, Celsius is a scientific scale. If it’s 100F, you know it’s hot. If it’s 120F you know it’s fucking hot. If it’s 0F you know it’s cold, if it’s -20F you know it’s very cold and is also the temperature where your nostrils stick together when you're breathing. The only other thing that matters is 32F. 50 - 60F is nice hiking weather, 70F is a nice indoor air temp. What does 30C tell me? That I’m 1/3rd of the way to being boiled alive?

I used charge maps and route planners to figure out how I could travel around the state in the winter without having to stop at a grocery store after it's closed in the middle winter multiple times during a trip, or how I would I could charge my car on a regular basis considering that I don't have a house with a garage and that the nearest charger is at a car dealer over a mile away. You think I want to hang out at a car dealership in January? So yeah I looked at your fucking map.
